Google and Telegram obliged to open representative offices in Russia

Roskomnadzor: Google and 12 companies should open representative offices in Russia by January 1

13 foreign IT companies, including Google, Telegram, Twitter and Meta (formerly Facebook) have entered the Landing Act on the register. According to the press service of Roskomnadzor, they were ordered to open representative offices in Russia by January 1.

The law on “landing” of IT giants was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 1. The adopted draft obliges foreign technology corporations with a daily audience of more than 500 thousand users from Russia to open official representative offices or branches in the country from January 1, 2022.

Facebook has been included in the preliminary list of online platforms that will be affected by the law , Instagram, TikTok and Twitter, YouTube and Twitch video hosting, WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber messengers, Gmail, Google and Bing search engines, hosting providers Amazon, Digital Ocean, Cloudfire and GoDaddy, AliExpress online stores, IKEA, iHerb and the encyclopedia Wikipedia.
