Former Armenian President to be interrogated in corruption case

Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan summoned for interrogation to the anti-corruption committee … This is reported by the politician's lawyer Amram Makinyan on his Facebook page.

The lawyer said that law enforcement officers studied the testimony of Silva Hambardzumyan for three and a half years, who stated that she had given Sargsyan a bribe.

Makinyan recalled that the former head of state was interrogated in the bribery case two years ago. Then he was involved in the case as a witness.

A criminal case against Sargsyan was initiated at the end of 2019. According to the investigation, in 2013 the then president provided protection to the Flash company. It won the tender for the supply of diesel fuel, although it offered a higher price than its competitor. The state suffered damage worth a million dollars.

In mid-June, the nephew of the former president, Narek Sargsyan, received 5.5 years in prison for illegal circulation of weapons, ammunition, drugs and kidnapping. Since he has been in custody since 2018, now he must serve 3.5 years.
