The Catholic Cathedral was blown up during the mass

The explosion took place in the Catholic Cathedral on the island of Jolo in the southern Philippines. At least 19 people were killed and dozens were injured. On Sunday, January 27, reports the BBC.

The bomb exploded inside the Cathedral during Sunday mass, then a second device detonated in the Parking lot. Some of the victims had to be evacuated by helicopter. Earlier the Cathedral had already tried to blow up.

According to BBC, in the region of the active Islamist groups, but so far no militant organization has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Last week in the South of the Philippines held a referendum, the majority of the population consisting of Muslims, voted for expanded autonomy. However, Sulu province, which includes Jolo, voted against it.
