The total length of the bridge is 918 meters. Including 700 metres over land and the remaining part of it lies above the water. The Magdeburg bridge is the largest water bridge in Europe.

The story of its construction lasted for many years. For the first time, engineers have conceived a bridge connecting the two waterways in 1919, and construction was carried out until 1938. Due to the outbreak of the Second world war the work was suspended. To the bridge back in 1997 and finally opened it in October 2003.
