The investigative Committee closed the criminal case for reposts in social networks “Vkontakte” against the Manager of Tver after the signing by Russian President Vladimir Putin amendments on partial decriminalization of the article on extremism. According to the explanatory Memorandum to the bill, in the course of analysis of law enforcement practices revealed that a criminal prosecution under part 1 of article 282 of the criminal code is not always justified.

The act provides for criminal prosecution for extremism, which was done publicly, on the Internet, including on social networks or in the media only in case if a person was brought to administrative responsibility for such an act in the course of one year.

According to the documents, the first violation will be added to the administrative. The code of administrative offences is supplemented with article 20.3 according to which the citizens for the violation will be fined up to 20 thousand rubles., up to 100 hours of forced labor or up to 15 days of arrest. The maximum fine for legal persons is 500 thousand rubles.
