Bastrykin instructed to examine all criminal cases with exculpatory sentences

So the head of the IC responded to the criticism of the Chairman of Moscow city court Olga Yegorova, who expressed dissatisfaction with the frequent acquittal verdicts in cases of a jury.

The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin has instructed to carefully check the materials of all criminal cases in which Moscow courts issued acquittals.

Earlier the Chairman of Moscow city court Olga Yegorova has criticized the work of investigators and prosecutors, adding that often unhappy with acquittal judgments in cases tried by a jury. In her opinion, “the investigators forgot to collect and analyze evidence”.

Is there a need to review all criminal cases? This says a lawyer of the bar “Blagoutine and partners,” a former judge with 20 years of experience, Love Blagoutine:

— Personally, I think that this is not necessary. The only thing I agree: the quality of the investigation, and I observed since 1987, catastrophically worse. One of the leading causes of deterioration of the investigation is that the courts “swallow” criminal cases, looking for compromise solutions, but any excuse to hand down a guilty verdict. It does not pass a jury, just the figure, presented by Egorova, confirms the poor quality of the investigation. It is necessary to revise the trend itself, as a consequence definitely needs improvement.
