The early warning system for tsunami in Indonesia have stopped working since 2012
Moscow. 24 Dec. INTERFAX.RU — Indonesian Agency for countering natural disasters, said that the country needs to develop a new early warning system for tsunamis, since the system from the network of buoys is not in effect in 2012, writes on Monday the British newspaper the Guardian.
This statement was made after the devastating tsunami that Saturday brought Indonesia to the deaths of at least 281 people. The authorities have warned about the risk of a new tsunami.
In a press-service of the Ministry stressed that the country lacks an early warning system for tsunamis caused by underwater landslides or volcanic eruptions.
“The current early warning system is designed exclusively for earthquakes. In Indonesia, you need to create a similar system for tsunami caused by displacement of rocks and volcanic eruptions,” wrote on Twitter the official representative of the Agency for combating natural disasters, Sutopo Purvo Nugroho.
