The main feature of the Wau-EN-Namus is that the sand here is black. It happened because of a volcanic eruption many millennia ago. The volcano threw so much ash and the ash that covered the surrounding area in a radius of 20 kilometers.

If you look at the oasis from the top, it will look like a small black spot against the yellow Sands of the Sahara.

The amazing beauty of this place in recent years attracts more and more tourists and adventure lovers. But they’re in for one nasty surprise. The fact that the Wau-EN-Namus, translated from the Libyan dialect means “Oasis of mosquitoes”.

Since this is the only water source for miles, an oasis was chosen by the hordes of mosquitoes that are very happy with our new guests.
