Railway extension is only of 4.62 km and stretches from the town of Alpnachstad to the top of mount Pilatus (Pilatus-Kulm). All the way you can drive just 30 minutes — even with short stops. The maximum height to which train is raised, is 2,070 meters above sea level.

The first flight on this route was launched on 4th June, 1889, the year. In 1937, the year the railway was electrified. Today, the route Pilatusbahn run 10 cars with a capacity of 40 people. The average speed of the train is 12 miles per hour — and it allows you to effortlessly take in the surrounding scenery and take some amazing photos of local nature.

But the most exciting adventure is waiting for passengers near the end of route when the train begins to pass through tunnels carved into the rocks. Here the train goes right over a cliff dozens of meters high.
