The Minister of internal Affairs of France Christophe Castaner reported that the number detained during Saturday’s demonstrations in Paris exceeded 1550. The Minister said talking on the Champs-élysées with representatives of the units involved in the measures to restore order during demonstrations of the “yellow jackets.”

The number of detainees has become a sort of record for Paris and exceeded currently 1550. Never before in Paris was not detained by law enforcement so many people.

Just an hour earlier, speaking at operational headquarters of the interior Ministry, he said that across the country was delayed 1385 people, but noted that this number is bound to increase in the near future.

The interior Minister of France said that such a result in the suppression of the riots has been achieved “through a more flexible structure used police forces and the gendarmerie”, as well as through “command, which was close to what is happening on the ground,” and “the new rules of actions that the officers effectively implemented”. The Minister also noted that the police and gendarmerie managed to operate successfully with the support of armored vehicles, “which had long been used in the French capital”. The policy change of strategy and tactics gave this week the President of France Emmanuel macron after the manifestation of “yellow jackets” on December 1 in Paris has led to a large number of injuries and major riots on the Champs Elysees.

The Minister acknowledged that on 8 December, “has become a difficult and stressful day, there were many incidents in the country and in Paris.” “But at the same time there are significantly fewer victims and less violence,” said the Minister.
