President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko promised on 10 December to sign the law on the non-renewal of the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. According to the notification, on 29 September, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry sent the Russian foreign Ministry, the agreement will terminate April 1, 2019.

The Verkhovna Rada on December 6 approved the decision of the President of Ukraine not to renew the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
The Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and Russia was signed in may 1997 and came into effect in April 1999 for a period of 10 years with automatic prolongation for the next decade in the absence of objections of the parties. In October 2018 expired, when the parties were supposed to declare its intention to renew or terminate the contract for the next period.
