Endangered animals protected from trophy hunting

After the publication of “Kommersant” about the proposals of the Deputy of the state Duma Vladislav Reznik to assess the possibility of introducing in Russia the trophy hunting of red-listed animals, the Duma Committee on ecology declared that categorically against such an initiative. The deputies considered the proposal of Mr. Reznik’s “attempt to legitimize their own interest” and stated that it will not allow to realize this idea. The Minister of natural resources Dmitry Kobylkin also spoke out strongly against the hunting of animals listed in the Red book.

On Monday the Duma Committee on ecology and environmental protection has objected to the possible introduction in Russia of trophy hunting for endangered animals. “They need to protect, not to shoot, — said the head of the Committee Vladimir burmatov.— No decision on the permit trophy hunting of red-listed animals from the Ministry of environment we do not allow”. Mr. Burmatov added that the Committee “will call” representatives of environmental agencies, to get the “official position of the Ministry on this issue”.

Previously, “Kommersant” became known that the Deputy of the state Duma Vladislav Reznik, a member of the “club of mountain hunters”, sent to the Deputy head of the Ministry Ivan Valentik parliamentary inquiry. In it Mr. Resnick were offered to evaluate the possibility of introducing in Russia “special programs” that allow trophy hunting for endangered species on a reimbursable basis “with the subsequent priority use of the proceeds” to conduct research and conservation activities in relation to endangered species.

The Ministry of natural resources announced Wednesday that Ivan Valentine on 12 November held a meeting to discuss the possibility of the implementation of trophy hunting: “At the end of the meeting it was decided to study the feasibility of trophy hunting of rare and endangered species of wildlife”.
