One example of such predators — the conodonts, a class of extinct animals of the chordate type. In appearance they were similar to modern eels. Fossils odontoid skeletal remnants of conodonts discovered in marine sediments of different geological age.

Grabbing the prey, these prehistoric “acne” is sometimes damaged teeth, but then they completely recovered. This fact was set by electronic microscopes and x-rays. Scientists study the different layers of the teeth of conodonts and their chemical composition to understand how those grew.

The researchers were able to establish a certain pattern in which the teeth of the predators erased or destroyed and then recovered. Animals were “hiding” teeth in a rest period. At this time they in the epidermal pocket of fresh superimposed layers.
