Depardieu wants to obtain Turkish citizenship, write media
ANKARA, 17 Sep — RIA Novosti. Famous actor Gerard Depardieu announced his desire to obtain Turkish citizenship, said on Monday the newspaper Aydinlik.
As previously reported Agence France-Presse, Depardieu was spotted in Pyongyang, where preparations are underway for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK. Reporters saw Depardieu in the bar of one of the hotels of the North Korean capital, which is still frequented by tourists.
“I intend to visit Turkey in October and talk to Erdogan” — quoted Depardieu newspaper, adding that the actor has declared intention to obtain Turkish citizenship. It is reported that this statement Depardieu made during his trip to Pyongyang.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 January 2013 signed a decree granting Depardieu Russian citizenship after the actor permanently residing outside of Russia, received a residence permit in Saransk. Depardieu has retained French citizenship.
