Stone forest in Madagascar has become a haven for lemurs (photo)
This is one of the few places on Earth that have preserved its natural beauty.

On the West coast of Madagascar is a unique nature reserve Tingi du Bemaraha. His cosmic landscape little disturbed by human activity, as old trees become a refuge for the threatened extinction of the indri indri and lemurs.

Avahi cleesei — nocturnal animals. Before sunset they sleep in hollows. These lemurs eat leaves, shoots, bark and fruits. Animals do not like to come down to earth, preferring to sit higher in the trees. Species recognized as endangered and is under protection.

Indri, or babakoto — another unusual animal that lives in Zingy du Bemaraha. It is the largest of the lemurs — they reach 90 cm in length. But the tail, babakoto very short — no more than 5 cm indri Weigh up to 10 kg.

Unlike other lemurs, indri like daytime. And early in the morning, about seven o’clock, you can hear their unusual, loud singing. So indri claim rights to the territory, though the local inhabitants believe that these animals worshipping the sun.

The name of the species was the result of a ridiculous misunderstanding. Seeing the trees lemurs, Malagasy guides were shown to the researchers: “there he is.” In local language it sounded like “indri”.

Reserve Tingi du Bemaraha was created in 1927. It is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and holds many natural wonders.
