Poroshenko said about the readiness of Ukraine to denounce the Treaty of friendship with Russia
Moscow. 28 Aug. INTERFAX.RU President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine is ready legally to the termination of the agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership with Russia signed in 1997, and expects the relevant documents from the Ministry of foreign Affairs.

“Today we have come sufficiently prepared and legally protected, the next step is the termination of the agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which is the fault of Moscow has already become an anachronism,” said Poroshenko on Tuesday at a meeting with heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.

The Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and Russia was signed on 31 may 1997, ten years with subsequent automatic prolongation on agreement of the parties. The Verkhovna Rada ratified the Treaty on 14 January 1998, the state Duma 25 December 1998. The Treaty entered into force on 1 April 1999 upon the exchange of instruments of ratification.
The Treaty enshrines the principle of strategic partnership, the recognition of the inviolability of existing borders, respect for territorial integrity and mutual commitment not to use their territory to the detriment of each other.
Count the first ten year period started from the date the Treaty enters into force on 1 April 1999 and ended on 1 April 2009. The parties wish to terminate the contract before October 1, 2008, so it automatically lasted for the next decade.
