A new round of talks between Belgrade and Pristina on the normalization of relations will take place in September in Brussels. According to “Kommersant” from Western diplomatic sources, the Central issue of the negotiations of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the head of Kosovo Hashim Thaci will be the transfer of territories inhabited by Serbs in the Northern Kosovo in exchange for the South of Serbia inhabited by Albanians. The timing of the new round of talks on normalization of mutual relations agreed last week the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the head of Kosovo Hashim Thaci. The negotiations between them by the mediation of the EU have been going on for many months, but real progress is still not achieved. Meanwhile, assure close to the Serbian authorities Kommersant’s sources, the EU gave Belgrade an ultimatum, demanding to negotiate with Pristina until the beginning of 2019, otherwise the integration of Serbia into the European Union will be blocked.
Diplomatic sources at the EU explained that Brussels did not require Belgrade to recognise Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008 and which has already been recognized by more than hundred States. However, the standardization implies the consent of Belgrade for membership of Kosovo in international organizations, including the UN. Pristina should agree to the establishment on its territory of the Community of Serb municipalities (SSM).
