“More than fair to raise the retirement age, and what not to index pensions to workers (and pensioners. — Approx. ed.). So I think that ultimately, after a transition period, to return to the issue of indexation of pensions for workers,” said Kudrin, speaking at the parliamentary hearings on improvement of the pension system.

In his opinion, regional benefits for pensioners should be maintained.

Now we are discussing the issue of benefits at the regional level that target seniors. I think this is a normal question, need, maybe, to clarify something, but as a whole these benefits could be saved.Alex Makinglove of the accounts chamber of the Russian Federation

Now the standard age of retirement in Russia is 60 and 55 years for men and women respectively prescribed by law the retirement age established in the 1930-ies. The question of raising the retirement age has been discussed for quite some time. The need for this is caused by growing life expectancy and the inability to provide a decent pension in circumstances when the number of employees in the country decreases, while the number of pensioners, by contrast, is growing. Today, in most countries the retirement age is 60-65 years.
