Scientists have explained why women suffer from migraines

MOSCOW, 14 Aug — RIA Novosti. Women often suffer from migraines due to the fact that the nerve cells causing the pain, become more active in the presence of estrogen, a female sex hormone. To such conclusion scientists, who published an article in the journal Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences.

“Now we are preparing to conduct preclinical testing on human volunteers, not suffering from such headaches. If these experiments will be completed successfully, then we will achieve close to creating personalized drugs for treatment of migraine,” said Antonio Ferrer-Montiel (Antonio Ferrer-Montiel) from the University Miguel Hernandez in Elche (Spain).

Migraine is a neurological disease, the most frequent and characteristic symptom of which is occasional or regular strong and painful headaches in one half of the head.
