“Passport for sale”: Montenegro introduces a new way of obtaining citizenship
MOSCOW, 28 Aug — RIA Novosti. The Montenegrin government has proposed from 1 October to launch a program to provide economic citizenship. About it reported in a press release published at the end of the 87th session of the Cabinet.
The program involves the possibility of obtaining a Montenegrin passport in exchange for investments in the economy of the country.
While there are two ways of obtaining citizenship of Montenegro for the money: investments in the amount of 250 thousand dollars in the undeveloped areas of the country, or 450 thousand Euro in developed countries.
The investment projects must first be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The government of Montenegro will also charge a fee in the amount of 100 thousand euros per application for citizenship in this way.
The authorities hope that the new measures will make Montenegro more attractive to foreign investment.
