Two police officers in the Altai region received sentences for beating testimony

Former Deputy chief and the detective branch of police zmeinogorskiy in the Altai region received seven and six years in prison for abuse of authority (items “a” and “b” part 3 article 286 of the criminal code) in 2015, according to the Investigative Committee of Russia. The names of police officers convicted for beating detainees, not shown.

In the fall of 2015 the police caught three local residents suspected in the theft of a bag of grain. During the interrogation, the police beat and tortured them, using a stun gun, a gas mask and handcuffs. The detainees confessed to the theft, but the beatings continued, the police demanded recognition in other similar crimes.

The cops pleaded not guilty.

In July of the current year the wide resonance was received by business about beating of the prisoner in the Yaroslavl colony No. 1. Video of beating of a prisoner published “Novaya Gazeta”. The material of the publication mentioned about 18 employees of the colony: 17 of them were beaten prisoner, one was shot on video. In the case arrested six suspects.

On 26 July, the Russian delegation provided to the Committee against torture of the UN responses to questions about measures to combat torture in the country.
