UN, July 26 — RIA Novosti. The United States blocked the UN security Council of the Russian initiative for a middle East settlement, said the permanent mission of the Russian Federation on Thursday.

As have informed in the permanent representation, Russia initiated in the UN security Council a draft document that would confirm the lack of an alternative internationally-recognized basis for the solution of the problem of Palestine and the middle East settlement, however counter-amendment, the United States on this issue they leveled.

“Unfortunately, the U.S. delegation came with an amendment that removed all reference to the agreed basis for a settlement, like many other important provisions”, — said the permanent representative.

It was explained that the proposal arose in response to the annual request of the UN Secretary General in the framework of the resolution on the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine.

“Was a draft of the letter of the President of the security Council, which also indicated the steps taken by the Council on middle East settlement”, — explained in the Russian mission, and added that “the initiative has received the support of a majority of the members of the security Council, including Kuwait, Bolivian and Chinese partners.”

However, because of the position of the United States, which did not leave hope to find a compromise on the text of the letter, the Russian representatives “were forced to roll them over the work.”
