The state Department added that the work of the UN to investigate crimes in Syria, “is of vital importance to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the most serious crimes against international law committed in Syria since March 2011”.

In may, the United States froze funding for the White helmets. However, the organization was not officially informed about the suspension. UK in response, promised to continue to support the White helmets and even increase their funding.
