The HRC will discuss the situation with the destruction of data on prisoners of the Gulag

MOSCOW, 8 Feb — RIA Novosti. Announced in the media information about the destruction of archival index cards with information about the repressed will be discussed at the meeting of the interdepartmental working group on perpetuating of memory of victims of repression, if such facts really take place, it is barbarism, said the adviser of the President of the Russian Federation, head of the working group Mikhail Fedotov.

The newspaper “Kommersant” reported earlier that the State Museum of Gulag history was known about the destruction of archival index cards with information about the repressed in the Soviet years.

According to the publication, the destruction of valuable information is based on a classified interdepartmental order from 2014.

The Museum’s Director, Roman Romanov reported the situation to the Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, the head of the presidential Council on human rights (HRC) Mikhail Fedotov. He explained that the researchers received responses from the interior Ministry, which said the destruction of these cards.

“If there is such information about the destruction of archival index cards with information about the repressed, today we ask this question at the meeting of the interdepartmental working group to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression”, — said Fedotov RIA Novosti.

He said that on Friday in Yoshkar-Ola as time passes such meeting.

The interviewee said that the outreach working group meeting in Mari El Republic, the participants visited the national Museum of Gulag history, which was created by community members.

“Now we were on Bandurska memorial cemetery, I saw the firing pit and discussed the question of what should be done to accurately determine the boundaries of graves and to further memorialization. Naturally, at this meeting, we will discuss prospects of development of this Museum and Mandurah memorial”, — said Fedotov.

According to the website of the HRC, at the meeting of the working group in addition to of participate including a representative of the State Museum of Gulag history Artem Gotlib and Deputy Minister of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Zubov.
