Message about the fire was received at 19.45 GMT. Burned superstructure on the roof on the area of 80 square meters. The fire went from emergency: 24 pieces of equipment and 107 personnel.
“The fire is localized in 20.32. From the building prior to arrival of emergency brought in 450 visitors and 80 employees of the store,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
“Passage” is one of the oldest and biggest trading houses in Saint-Petersburg is located at Nevsky prospect, 48. The building Department was built in 1846-1848 by the architect R. A. Zhelyazevich. On the first floor of the building there were warehouses, on the second commercial space on the third. Then the building was repeatedly rebuilt and reconstructed. In 1933, the “Passage” became a national Department store, 1941-1947, it was closed for preservation, and in 1961 in the Passage, opened the first in the USSR Department store for women.
