Watch Elvis Presley sold 18 times more expensive than the pre-sale estimate

Moscow. May 14. INTERFAX.RU — Decorated with diamonds Omega watches 1960 of the release, belonging to musician Elvis Presley, sold at auction Phillips for 1,812 million Swiss francs ($1.8 million).

As stated in the materials on the website of the auction house, the transaction amount is 18 times higher than the highest pre-sale estimate (50 thousand — 100 thousand francs).

Lot set a new record price for the watch brand Omega and contrary to expectations, turned out to be one of the most expensive at the auction, held on 12-13 may in Geneva.

Subsequently, the musician gave the watch to the uncle of the current owner in exchange for its Hamilton, also decorated with diamonds.

According to Phillips, earlier in the auction was never a watch so closely associated with the musical career of the “king of rock-n-roll”.

Auction house Phillips recently became the leader in terms of trading rare vintage watches and timepieces. Absolute record prices in this segment, installed in October of 2017: a Rolex watch, which belonged to actor Paul Newman, has sold for $17.8 million
