Found a way to cure alcohol dependence

Scientists Queensland University of technology in Australia found that the drug tandospirone able to pay damages in the human brain related to excessive alcohol consumption, and to decrease dependence on him. About it reported in a press release on MedicalXpress.

Tandospirone is an antidepressant that is associated with the serotonin receptor 5-HT1A as partial agonist, i.e. shows less activity than serotonin.

In experiments on mice, researchers have shown that its antidepressant properties are useful for relieving anxiety due to the cessation of drinking alcohol. In turn, this reduces stress caused by attachment to alcohol.

In addition, two weeks of taking an antidepressant of tandospirone in a dose equal to three milligrams per kilogram, fade the signs of suppression of neurogenesis (formation of new neurons) because of the alcohol that was given to the rodents for 15 weeks.

In January 2018 in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research published an article of scientists from the University of Illinois at Chicago, which proved that drug-induced suppression of the microRNA MiR-21 allows you to reverse the process of destruction of blood vessels in people with alcohol dependence.
