Found a way to make alcohol safe
Scientists at the University of Illinois in Chicago showed that pharmacological suppression of microRNA MiR-21 allows you to reverse the process of destruction of blood vessels in people with alcohol dependence. About it reported in a press release on the website MedicalXpress.
It is known that one in six adults drank more than four times per month, and for this part of the population characterized by a high risk of developing diseases associated with the cardiovascular system. According to Shane Phillips, one of the authors of the study, more and more young people are prone to disorders of the heart and blood vessels.
Experts analyzed blood samples and biopsy tissue 14 people aged 18 to 30 years. Study participants were divided into two groups, one of which had consumed four or five glasses of alcohol during any two hours in the last 30 days. In the second group of participants were drinking not more than one serving of alcohol per month.
It turned out that the first was the increased levels of MiR-21 — connection that is involved in blocking the activity of a number of genes that protect the body from cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
The researchers also found that the suppression of microRNAs helped to restore the blood vessels in people with alcohol dependence. Participants in the second group, this effect was not observed.
