The Senate endorsed the extension criticized by trump’s surveillance programs abroad

Talking about the wiretapping of telephone conversations and interception of electronic correspondence of citizens of other States suspected of terrorism.

WASHINGTON, January 18. /TASS/. The U.S. Senate on Thursday voted to extend for six years the duration of the program for the implementation of wiretaps of telephone conversations and interception of electronic communications of citizens of other countries suspected of terrorism. Its very existence is not the first controversial not only in the United States but also in other countries of the world.

The vote took place, rather on party affiliation. A bill to extend the majority supported the Republicans — 65 senators against him were made by 34 members of the house, mostly Democrats. Now the document will be sent for signature to the President.

We are talking about section 702 adopted in 1978 of the Law on the monitoring of foreign intelligence (FISA). Made to it in 2008, the amendment gives the right to special services without the sanction of a special court to tap phones and read e-mail between foreign nationals outside the U.S., but uses American satellite channels, nodes or Internet servers, including those owned by major companies.

In General, intelligence agencies do not have the right to conduct the same surveillance without a warrant for Americans. However, there is an important exception, US citizens can fall under the action programme and be under surveillance if they come into contact with foreigners who are in the field of intelligence.
