The explosion at the major gas distribution station in Baumgarten occurred on 12 December because of the accident there were faults in deliveries of fuel to Italy, Hungary and Slovenia, including Russian gas. Italy introduced a state of emergency. Fuel supplies to Italian consumers will be provided from inventories held in underground storage facilities, assured the authorities.
Station in Baumgarten is among the three largest distribution centres in Europe and is an international platform for trade in natural gas.
