Mystery of exploding near Earth objects
American scientists have found the reason why explode approaching to the Earth space bodies. A study published in the journal Meteoritics & Planetary Science, according to Purdue University (USA).
To such conclusions experts have modeled the occurrence of an asteroid in the Earth’s atmosphere and fall to the planet’s surface. According to scientists, the air sheath is the best protection of the planet from celestial bodies.
As a model example of a natural phenomenon, the authors used data on Chelyabinsk meteorite. It is a fragment of the asteroid, which is 15 February 2013 at about 07:10 Moscow time entered the Earth’s atmosphere. Cosmic body exploded at a height of up to 50 kilometers. While entering the atmosphere the meteoroid had a mass of about 10 thousand tons, but the surface of the planet made up only a fifth part of it.
