Moskalkova called Alexeyev the banner of the human rights movement

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. The Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova called the head of the Moscow Helsinki group Lyudmila Alexeyeva, which on Monday was awarded the banner of human rights.

“We congratulate Lyudmila Alexeyeva with the awarding of the state prize, we are pleased that the decree was signed [by the President]. When discussing her candidacy at a meeting of the Commission one of the members of the Commission said she is the icon of the civil rights movement. I would say that it is the banner of the human rights movement,” said TASS Moskalkova.

According to her, Alekseev has managed to “cultivate a whole school of effective advocacy and effective interaction between society and government”. “So this award was well deserved,” — said the Ombudsman. She also finds it extremely useful cooperation with Lyudmila Alexeyeva. “Our cooperation is very constructive, allows quickly to react on violations of human rights and allows to restore the violated rights and freedoms,” — said Moskalkova.

“We wish Lyudmila Alexeyeva health, strength of spirit, and the same as now, energy in protecting the rights of citizens”, — concluded Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation.
