In the Federation Council threatened the United States “powerful weapon” in the case of withdrawal from the INF Treaty
Russia in case of US withdrawal from the Treaty on intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF) will prepare in the shortest possible time “even more powerful weapons.” This statement was made by the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Bondarev.
Senator opposes changes to the Treaty, which allows partly to contain threats from potential adversaries. In his opinion, the agreement not only put an end to “the arms race, but likely averted a nuclear conflict, RIA “Novosti”.
With the signing of the INF Treaty were destroyed a whole class of dangerous weapons, including ballistic and cruise land-based missiles with a range of 500-5500 km.
The Treaty on intermediate and shorter-range missiles was signed by Russia and the United States on 8 December 1987. Under the agreement, the parties had to destroy a whole class of missile weapons, including missiles R-12 and R-14.
