The state Department urged Kiev to de-escalate the situation with Saakashvili
WASHINGTON, 5 Dec — RIA Novosti. The United States urges all parties in Ukraine to avoid violence in a situation around eks-the President of Georgia and former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili, said the official U.S. state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.

“We are closely monitoring this situation and what is happening in Kiev. We are in close contact with the Ukrainian government, as you know, we are with him in a good relationship, that doesn’t mean we agree with them in everything. We urge the authorities of Ukraine to de-escalate the situation… We urge all parties to avoid violence and follow the rule of law, international obligations”, — said Nauert at the briefing.
“If they (Ukrainian authorities — ed.) arrest someone, it has to be in accordance with the laws and regulations of this country, as well as with international commitments in the field of human rights,” she said.
