Moscow oncologists suspected of extortion over free treatment

The main Investigative Committee in Moscow opened a criminal case against the doctors who took patients money allotted to them free treatment. This is stated on the website of the regional office.

According to investigators, from January 1, 2015 to November 27, 2017 the leadership of one of the Moscow medical institutions illegally provided paid services to the patients who were to receive free treatment under the program of obligatory medical insurance. The Agency estimated that the total amount received illegal payments amounted to 3.85 million rubles.

The case was opened under part 1 article 285 of the criminal code (“Abuse of power”). Are the circumstances of the incident and persons involved in the crime.

According to TASS, earlier the state office of public Prosecutor has revealed infringements in the Moscow National medical research center of Oncology named after Blokhin. They were associated with the provision of paid services for the procedures included in the program of the MLA. The center said that guided by the interests of patients.

The Agency also writes that the institution does not have information about the criminal case.

As reported by the media, the actions of the leadership of the cancer center suffered about 2.2 thousand patients. However, its representatives argued that the OMS tariffs did not cover the necessary tests and treatment, and the money people would pay ostensibly voluntarily.
