The huntsman explained why relations soured between the US and Russia
MOSCOW, 4 Dec — RIA Novosti. U.S. Ambassador to Russia John huntsman believes that one of the reasons for the cooling relations between the two countries was the “intervention” of Moscow in the elections of the us President in 2016.
“I would not like to highlight one reason, but I have to say that the intervention in the US presidential election in 2016, played a big role. I think Russia underestimated how that had an impact on the elections themselves and on the people who are interested in them, followed by the election process. In American politics the system of electing the head of state is sacred. And it is important for us to believe that this system is based on trust and integrity. And any attempt to undermine this system will be seen as highly inappropriate and unfortunate attack”, — he told in interview to the newspaper “Vedomosti”.
Thus, according to Huntsman, the original cause of cooling relations between the two countries – the situation in Ukraine.
“The intervention added to cart mistrust. And we can’t get out of, until we understand the reasons that brought us here, and don’t deal with them,” the Ambassador added.
The investigation of the alleged Russian “interference in the American election” as well as alleged links of the President of the United States Donald trump with Moscow that refute as the White house and the Kremlin, is in the FBI and in Congress. Russia has repeatedly denied accusations of trying to influence the elections in different countries, as the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov called them “completely unfounded”.
