John Huntsman
U.S. Ambassador to Russia John huntsman has cancelled a working trip to the far East. It explained that local authorities had been unable to meet with him. On Friday, December 1, reported on the official website of the diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador was to visit Vladivostok and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk next week, but regional authorities, including the acting Governor of Primorsky Krai, the Sakhalin region Governor and the mayor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk denied him a meeting.
“This is particularly disappointing in the context of open and productive meetings of Ambassador Jon Huntsman, the Minister of foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other members of the Russian government (…). It is obvious that the way to improve relations between the United States and Russia begins with the willingness to engage in Frank and open dialogue. Ambassador huntsman is committed to the establishment of such a dialogue, but the Russian side should show readiness”, — stated in the message of the diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador also intended to talk with the commander of the Pacific fleet of Russia on security issues in the Pacific region that represent a mutual interest for Moscow and Washington.
The huntsman arrived in Russia in early October.
