Riga residents complain of a “chemical” smell
RIGA, 5 Dec — RIA Novosti. Strong chemical smell vaguely reminiscent of chlorine is felt in the centre of Riga, the residents are advised not to open Windows, reports the correspondent of RIA Novosti.
“I can’t breathe. Unpleasant chemical smell — feels like something between the smell of gas and bleach. The throat tears up, but it stings your eyes. Pleasant enough,” — told RIA Novosti resident of the house on one of the Central streets of Riga Alexander.
In the gas company Latvijas Gāze, told journalists that the telephone emergency services today received a lot of calls alarmed residents, but there is no gas leakage in the capital is not fixed.
“Not a gas leak, perhaps on Kundzinsala (the port district of Riga) is the handling of chemical cargo and the wind carries the scent in the city”, — explained in rescue service.
Local residents were advised to close the Windows so the odor is not leaked into the dwelling, and to be patient until the wind shall scatter the impurities in the air.
