Giant Gerberg extracted from the sewage in London

Block fat length of 250 metres and a weight of 130 tons, which have blocked drains in East London, was defeated after a nine-week battle, said local authorities.

Giant Gerberg (from the words “fat” and “iceberg”) — a solid mass of solidified grease, wet wipes, diapers, oils and condoms — was discovered in a sewer tunnel of the Victorian era in Whitechapel in September.

The scavengers of the company Thames Water, is responsible for all sewer pipes under the streets of the city, took more than two months to fight this monster because of the scale of the damage caused by gerberga sanitation.

On extracting gerberga worked with a team of eight people, the final part of the work had to be done manually, using shovels.

Managing Thames Water Alex Saunders said that “the beast finally vanquished,” calling the work anti-gerberga “one of the most disgusting.”

As gerberge arise? Where do they come from?

The reason — habits of the locals. Namely, for two habits.

First, the habit of frying food in oil or fat, and then merge this unnecessary, but still hot and liquid fat mass in sink in the kitchen. Mass, which then somewhere, in the depths of the water safely freezes, ecumenial and clog all the pipes.

And secondly, the habit to throw the toilet such strange items as wet wipes, tampons and tights.

It all gets stuck in grease in the sewers, there swims another portion of fresh grease, and creates the effect of a coral reef, which starts to grow higher and higher, wider and wider.
