Prime Minister of Spain fired Pokdemon and dissolved the Parliament of Catalonia

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced that he had decided to dismiss the head of the Generalitat de Catalunya Carles Pokdemon and members of his government and to dissolve the regional Parliament, according to Reuters. Elections to the new Parliament of Catalonia is scheduled for December 21.

“We believe that the urgent need to restore the voices of the citizens of Catalonia. So I think that as soon as possible to hold free, transparent and legitimate elections,” said Rajoy in a speech at his residence in the Moncloa Palace.

The statement followed Rajoy held an emergency Cabinet meeting. It followed after the Catalan Parliament on Friday voted in favor of the independence of the region.

Earlier, in response to the vote of the Catalan Parliament, the Spanish Senate approved the government’s request for the transfer of the region under the direct control of Madrid in the framework of the 155th article of the Constitution of the country.

Immediately after the adoption of the Declaration of independence of Catalonia, Rajoy has promised to restore the rule of law in the region. “I ask all Spaniards to remain calm”, — he wrote on his page on Twitter.
