Spain decided to deprive Catalonia independence

The Spanish Senate approved the application of article 155 of the direct control of Madrid in Catalonia. On Friday, October 27, according to Reuters.

It is expected that in the near future, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy will hold an emergency Cabinet meeting to determine the measures that will be imposed on Catalonia.

Earlier on 27 October, the Catalan Parliament declared independence from Spain. The decision was made by secret ballot. Before the procedure, left the room, the deputies from the opposition parties opposing the separation region.

For an exit from the country voted 70 deputies, against — 10, 2 MP abstained.

On 24 October, the Minister of education, culture and sport, representative of Madrid, iñigo méndez de Vigo declared that the Spanish government could use force to restore order in Catalonia if the region’s residents would oppose measures to resolve the situation.

Three days earlier, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has dismissed the head of the Catalan government, Carles Pokdemon. Therefore, the Madrid gave effect to article 155 of the Spanish Constitution, which allows to introduce temporary direct control of the authority.

A referendum on independence was held in the region on 1 October. More than 90 percent of those who voted for secession of Catalonia from Spain. The Central government tried to prevent the referendum, including power methods. Suffered 893 people. Madrid of the will recognizes and considers his results null and void.
