Ksenia Sobchak

Ksenia Sobchak believes that her opinion regarding the ownership of Crimea to Ukraine is not a crime. She stated, answering the question of RIA Novosti.

“Jurisdiction of appeals to the office or violation of territorial integrity. In the law there is no word about a statement of fact, and even the statement of opinion that does not coincide with the state”, she explained.

24 Oct Sobchak in his first press conference after the entry into the presidential race of 2018 said that from the point of view of international law, Crimea belongs to Kiev, but Moscow has violated the Budapest Memorandum of 1994 guaranteeing Ukraine’s security in exchange for abandonment of nuclear weapons.

Later on 24 October, Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Dmitry Polonsky said that the Republic “was, is and will be Russian and is rightly, and by law, all other concepts of the human and justice.”

Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a meeting held in the region of the referendum in which an overwhelming majority of voters supported the decision. Kiev to recognize the results of the plebiscite refused. In Moscow, noted that the accession of the region conform to the norms of international law.
