MOSCOW, 22 Oct — RIA Novosti. A reproduction of the “Mona Lisa” of Leonardo Da Vinci by French artist Marcel Duchamp, on which he pencil drew a beard and mustache, sold at auction in Paris for 743 thousand dollars, reported on the website of auction house Sotheby’s.

“Mustached” Mona Lisa was originally estimated at 470-700 thousand dollars. Duchamp, whose works influenced the emergence of conceptual art, has created a “bearded” version of the “Mona Lisa” in 1964 and called it “L. H. O. O. Q”. According to media reports, a cursory reading of the name in the French manner is obtained an obscene phrase on the excited girl.

Duchamp’s painting was exhibited at auction in the collection of 110 works of Dadaism and surrealism. The amount of the sale all lots reached $ 4.6 million.
