Putin congratulated Zheenbekov with a victory on elections of the President of Kyrgyzstan

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to Sooronbay Jeenbekov on the occasion of his election as President of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported on the Kremlin website Monday, October 16.

“The results of the vote confirmed the high esteem in which Sooronbai Jeenbekov enjoys among fellow citizens, and show the recognition of his contribution to the solution of topical issues of socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan”, — the telegram says.

Putin also noted that Russia highly appreciates the personal contribution Zheenbekov to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. In addition, he expressed confidence that with joint efforts the countries will further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.

Presidential elections were held in Kyrgyzstan on October 15. According to preliminary data of the CEC of the Republic, leading candidate from the ruling party, former Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov, who scored more than 54 percent of the vote. In the second place opposition candidate Omurbek Babanov. He scored more than 33 percent of the vote.

The current head of state Almazbek Atambayev is not running, as the Constitution prohibits to nominate his candidacy for a second term.
