The Italian has made payment of sick leave to care for a dog

A resident of Rome made in a court of sick pay for the days spent on the care of your pet. This is the first such case in Italian judicial practice.

A teacher from the University of Rome Sapienza won by the Italian organization for the protection of animal rights Anti-Vivisection League (LAV), the lawyers which helped her in court.

The judge satisfied the claim of the women, and now the University needs to recognize her right of absence from the workplace due to “serious family emergency”.

The teacher, who preferred to remain anonymous, took two days off work to care for 12-year-old English setter named Cuchilla, recently undergoing surgery. A woman living alone and she had nobody to leave the pet.

Attorneys are guided by one of the articles of the Italian criminal code, according to which owners who left their Pets and thus doomed them to suffering, could face a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine amounting to 10 thousand euros (about 11.8 thousand dollars).

“This is a huge step forward in the recognition that animals are kept not for the purpose of financial gain and not because of their disability or as a full-fledged family members,” said the organization’s President LAV Gianluca Felicetti.

“Now everyone who was in a similar situation, will be able to use this important judicial precedent”, — he added.
