Turkey in the United States has stopped issuing nonimmigrant visas

The Turkish Embassy in Washington said on Sunday it has suspended issuance of all nonimmigrant visas in all Turkish diplomatic missions in the United States. About it reports Reuters.

Restrictive measures were adopted after similar moves made in Turkey to American diplomats in connection with the arrest of a Turkish citizen employee of the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul.

“Recent events have forced the Turkish government to reassess the commitment of the government of the United States the safety of the Turkish missions and personnel”, — reads the statement of the Embassy in Washington.

Turkish diplomatic mission used the same — literally, the “mirror” — the wording of the statement that the United States had previously justified their actions on the introduction of restrictions.

Turkish citizen detained on 4 October, was accused of ties with Gulen Was a preacher, whom Ankara accuses of plotting a failed coup d’état in 2016. Gulen lives in the United States, Turkey has unsuccessfully attempted to secure his extradition. Himself the preacher denies all charges.
