Dubai wants to put in airports, fully automated border control

DUBAI, 8 Feb — RIA Novosti. Dubai intends in the coming years to transfer border controls at airports in a fully automated mode, according to the publication Arabian Business.

One terminal of Dubai international airport is already working “smart gate” (smart gates) that simplify and speed up border control.

According to the Deputy head of the Directorate of residency and foreigners Affairs Obeid bin Surur al-Hamiri, city-Emirate is committed to “100% virtual border, without human presence.”

He noted that the workload of the two Dubai airports to 2020 will reach 124 million passengers, which is why a quick control on the border is a priority. Thus, according to the official, it is necessary to maintain a balance between “safety, speed and quality of service that exceeds the usual passport control procedures”.

As stated by al-Hamiri, “smart gate” has reduced the waiting time of passengers in queue. These “gates” will be installed in other terminals of Dubai airports.
