Customer’s sculpture against gender inequality was fined for sexism in the US

The firm State Street Corporation, which has ordered a sculpture “Fearless girl” in new York on gender inequality, will have to pay a penalty of $ 5 million. The company was punished for discrimination against women, reports The New York Times.

As the newspaper notes, a firm specializing in financial services understated the salaries of its employees-women, paying them lower wages than men in the same positions. Violations touched 305 workers, the report said the U.S. Department of labor.

In addition, State Street Corporation was accused of underreporting wages and 15 black Vice-presidents of the company in comparison with white counterparts. The company refuted this information, but to pay the fine agreed.

Monument “Fearless girl” appeared opposite “the Bull of wall street” in new York on the eve of International women’s day — March 7, 2017. The sculpture, according to the authors, symbolizes a protest against the belittling of the role of women in stock markets and large companies.
