The Nobel prize increased for the first time since 2001

The Nobel Foundation has increased the size of premiums paid to the winners, for the first time since 2001 the Premium will increase by 12.5% — from 8 million to 9 million SEK (about us $1.12 million).

“Next week starts the announcement of the Nobel prize, 2017, and we are pleased to announce that this year we increase the amount of the award, one million Swedish crowns,” said the Chairman of the Foundation Carl-Henrik Heldin, whose words are in the press release.

In 2012, the Foundation reduced the award from 10 million to 8 million Swedish kronor, to avoid the reduction of capital of the organization in the long term.

Nobel prizes are awarded annually on 10 December in Stockholm and Oslo. In October, the winners have finally confirmed and announced.
