The issue of the abolition of dual citizenship is a sovereign decision of each state, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

“As regards dual citizenship… This is a sovereign decision of any country”, — Medvedev told journalists, noting that the world has enough countries in favour and against the Institute.

The question was also raised by the Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipila, he was asked whether he considers necessary the abolition of dual citizenship. Currently, Finland is considering the possibility.

“With regard to the consideration of the Institute of dual citizenship in Finland, this issue is now in the process of legal review, this process is not finished yet, so I am not able to predict the outcome of this process. The issue of dual citizenship applies to all persons, not only as citizens of our Eastern neighbor,” said Sipilä, referring to Russia.

Moreover, Medvedev answered the question of the direction notes by Russia in the Finnish foreign Ministry.

That the Russian foreign Ministry sent to Finland note in connection with the activities of the employee of Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg, wrote a number of media. According to them, the Russian side believes that the employee violated Russian law when he helped a dual citizen suspected of weapons smuggling from Russia to Finland.

“In respect of the notes and of any actions that were made, I have no special information, except that it was about the violation of procedural rules, under our laws, and any conclusions from it especially should not do” — said Medvedev, commenting on the situation.

On Thursday in Petersburg the premiere of the Russian Federation and Finland met to discuss a wide range of issues.
